FAQ

  • What is the People's Institute for Survival And Beyond?
The People's Institute for Survival and Beyond (www.pisab.org) is a national, non-profit organization that sponsors workshops entitled "Undoing Racism/Community Organizing" that prepare individuals, groups, and institutions to be more effective organizers for racial justice. The People's Institute's work is based on the belief that the nation changes when organizing stems from an understanding of racism, what it is, and how it functions.
  • How did David begin this work and why?
Beginning in1962, after the murder of my uncle in McComb, MS, and after a visit from the Ku Klux Klan who asked my father and uncles "What sort of vengeance do you want?" I heard my uncle answer, "We don't want you to do anything. We're not that kind of family." This encounter began my life-long determination to understand racism and what to do about it.
